How TravelCard works


Luggage delayed? Cash stolen? Sick or injured overseas? TravelCard Real-TimeTM travel insurance can help. When you take out a policy, we'll ask if you’d like a TravelCard to take on your trip. This allows you to pay expenses for approved claims so you can get back to enjoying your holiday without being out of pocket. Most claims can be managed in minutes. No excess to pay, less paperwork and no long claims process – it’s that simple.

So, if your luggage is delayed and you need PJs and a toothbrush, you can use the TravelCard to purchase what you need up to the value of $150. Or, if the matter is more serious and you have a medical issue overseas, medical expenses can be paid using the TravelCard.


Here’s how it works: when you purchase your TravelCard travel insurance policy, we’ll ask whether you’d also like a TravelCard. If you want one, we’ll post you a TravelCard that you can take on your trip. While you’re away, if your baggage is delayed, cash is stolen or you have a medical issue overseas, you can call our team any time for a quick solution and funds are instantly transferred to the TravelCard. We will then send an activation PIN to your mobile phone.

Alternatively, submitting a claim before or after your travels is easy. You can:

  • Complete and return the Claim Form

You will need to provide documents in support of your claim. The Claim Form includes Helpful Hints and a Document Checklist to make the process as easy as possible.


Our market-leading travel insurance products

TravelCard offers three types of cover:

  • Leisure – for personal travel in Australia or overseas
  • Corporate – for organisations seeking to cover employees travelling for work
  • Business Class – corporate-style benefits for individuals who require broader cover and higher limits for their personal travel

Our standard Leisure policy covers a wide range of events, including:

  • Overseas medical and hospital expenses
    Cover for emergency medical and hospital treatment if you get sick or injured on your international trip
  • Cancellation and curtailment
    Cover if your trip is cancelled or cut short due to an insured event (for example an unforeseen injury or illness)
  • Additional expenses
    Cover for extra accommodation, meals and travel expenses if your trip is disrupted or you have to return home early due to an insured event. Luggage and personal effects cover for your personal belongings if they get lost, stolen or damaged during your trip
  • Travel documents, credit cards and travellers cheques
    Cost of replacing your passport, visas, travel money cards, travellers cheques and credit cards if they are lost, stolen or damaged
  • Personal Liability
    Your legal liability for accidentally injuring someone or damaging their property during your trip
  • Rental vehicle excess
    Any hire car insurance excess you become liable to pay as a result of the vehicle being damaged or stolen
  • Wide range of leisure activities
    More than 90 leisure activities covered as standard including cycling, kayaking, snorkelling and safari.

  • Cover While Cruising
    This is a comprehensive optional cover specially designed to cover you for a wide range of events whilst cruising such as: medical issues or emergency dental overseas, medical evacuation, cabin confinement, pre-paid shore excursion cancellation, lost or damaged or delayed arrival of formal attire, marine rescue diversion and missed port.
  • Winter Sports cover
    This is a comprehensive cover giving you peace of mind that you’re covered for medical evacuation and for loss, theft or damage to owned equipment and avalanche closure. It includes the following winter sports activities; Skiing, Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Cat Skiing and Off-Piste skiing with a professional guide on your journey.

  • Golf cover
    This is a comprehensive cover for Golf lovers, giving you peace of mind that you’re covered for loss, theft of, or damage to your equipment or equipment you’ve hired. If you can’t play due to injury or sickness, we’ll even cover the unused percentage of green fees and tuition fees for your trip.
  • Search & Rescue cover
    Our search and rescue cover protects you for the reasonable costs incurred by a recognised rescue provider or police authorities, to search for and to bring you to a place of safety following reports that you are missing and it has become necessary for the rescue or Police authorities to investigate a search and rescue operation.
  • Business Equipment cover
    If you need to take work away with you, we can provide protection for business equipment and documents. This includes if your business equipment is accidentally damaged, lost or stolen during your journey, we will cover but not limited to; reasonable costs of replacing your business documents, Business samples, demonstration goods, tools of trade or storage media for electronic data.
